13 reasons NOT to have a Golden Retriever

1 - IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DOG THAT IS ONLY OUTSIDE THE HOUSE.

What makes a Golden "golden" is its affection, as they are docile and tender by nature. Not having contact or having restricted contact with their owners makes them very unhappy. A Golden confining in the backyard would only become destructive and/or noisy. Imagine if you left your kids alone most of the time until their teens. The "woodworm" child you are visualizing would be similar to what your Golden would become. If you don't plan on making your Golden a part of the family then the Golden Retriever is not the right breed for you!

2 -YOU DON'T LIKE FURRY DOGS.

Goldens shed hair - a little throughout the year, but still, a couple of times annually they do a "general change". If you have trouble accepting that part of your Golden's coat will also be part of your fiber diet (or if you are in the habit of dressing in black) - this is not the breed for you! Goldens also need a frequent "salon" trip to keep their coat and skin healthy. You can learn to do this yourself or take him to the pet store, but this is a time spent that you will have to consider in the total time you will have to spend caring for your dog. Seriously think about these questions!

3 - YOU HAVE NO SENSE OF HUMOR

Goldens are born with a penchant for "play." If you don't think it's funny to wake up with a frilly, ice-cold tennis ball in front of you or a puppy who decides that 2:00 am is the perfect time to play... should consider another breed to buy!

4 - YOU HAVE CLEAN MANIA

Muddy or wet paws, muzzle marks on some windows of your house and car. Anyway... if you don't relax and enjoy, you and your dog are destined for eternal conflict!

5 - YOU LOVE SITTING ON THE SOFA ALL THE TIME AND...HOPE YOUR DOG ENJOYS IT TOO.

Goldens are sporty dogs, bred for "fetching" games. They need regular exercise, especially as puppies, or they can become very unhappy. If your biggest walk in the last month has been from the couch to bed...then maybe a sedentary pet is a better fit for your lifestyle!

6 - YOU LIKE EVERYTHING TO STAY EXACTLY WHERE YOU LEAVE IT.

Goldens have RETRIEVER as their last name and comes from the Latin "put everything in your mouth and catch/bring!" The RETRIEVER instinct should really be a part of all Goldens. So... if you wouldn't like to come home and your dog would come with his underwear in his mouth, for example, and extremely happy wagging his tail and wanting to play with you, maybe it's best to keep looking for another ideal breed for him. your temper!

7 - ARE YOU CONSIDERING GETTING A DOG JUST TEMPORARILY

Goldens are not just visitors, they will hopefully live a long time. Owning a dog is a commitment for the life of that dog. If you think that when your children grow up and go to school the dog will too, please reconsider the idea of having a dog in your house. In places that have stray dogs you can find many purebred dogs, maybe even Goldens, that have been abandoned because of a change in the family's life. There are many volunteers who help these little animals, but this solution shouldn't even be necessary, if they were all responsible for the lives they assume one day. A dog is a living being, who loves and suffers like us humans. With something better... an ability to be loyal for a lifetime and love unconditionally. So think 10 times before buying your puppy!!!

8 - YOU DON'T LIKE MAKING NEW FRIENDS

Your new family member will need some obedience classes to help him behave well as a canine citizen. And this is also a dangerous and easy way to make new friends. It's almost impossible to be walking with a wonderful Golden on the street and not be stopped by strangers who ask about the breed's aesthetics and friendliness. Goldens are "people magnets". Have problems with that? So maybe a guard dog breed is more appropriate for you.

9 - YOU WANT TO MAKE MONEY FAST CROSSING DOGS

Some Golden Retriever rescues in the US have spent thousands of dollars to save hundreds of dogs. And this happens because the owners of these dogs had the momentary idea of becoming a dog owner and "breeding" to produce puppies and have an extra income. These people had no idea about breeding techniques and especially about the ideal placement of the puppies. These puppies, unfortunately, are proof that there are a lot of irresponsible people out there. If the puppy trade is done the right way it will RARELY be a profitable venture (breeders say so!!) Health, vets and food are just a few of the many expenses necessary for a "hassle free" and healthy puppy. Therefore, Creation is a serious thing and done only by recognized professionals in the area.

10 - YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A WATCH DOG

Did I mention that Goldens just love everything and everyone? They'd probably end up helping thieves breaking into your house, probably even helping them carry the silver (they're retrievers, remember?). If you're looking for protection this probably won't be of good quality. Maybe that well-known guard dog is best for you.

11 - YOU LOOK AT THAT “BALL OF FUR” AND IN SILENCE PRAY THAT IT STAYS THAT SIZE FOREVER.

Goldens should grow between 51cm to 61cm and weigh between 28 and 38 kg. This is quite a dog! If you plan on not taking my advice about obedience classes and creating rules for your furry one, you'll be faced with an uncontrollably happy furball with a tail that can sweep even the coffee table... in a second! Alternatively, there are other wonderful smaller breeds (many tailless) you can choose from!

12 - DO YOU THINK DOGS ARE A GREAT BATTLE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN AND ARE A WONDERFUL LESSON IN RESPONSIBILITY FOR TEENAGERS.

You are partially right. A Golden Retriever and a child are often inseparable. However, the responsibility of any living being must always be an adult. Children can be great coaches, playmates, but they need an adult to instruct them. You should also remember that Goldens, while extremely docile, are big enough - even as puppies - to take down a very young child, for example. Small children and dogs must always be supervised by an adult, for the well-being of both. The rules of coexistence will be very welcome (and necessary!) in both cases.

13 - IF YOU THINK THE IDEAL PLACE TO BUY A GOLDEN IS THE STORE ON THE CORNER OF YOUR HOUSE OR AT A DOG FAIR, WHERE THEY ARE SOLD AT “AWESOME PRICES” .

Golden Retriever is prone to some health problems, especially dysplasia. Heart disease, eye problems, epilepsy, premature cancer and temperament problems that range from hyperactivity to aggressiveness are some of the manifestations that are not desired within a breeding, even more so in a Golden Retriever squad. It is essential that you look for a responsible, serious and ethical breeder if you are looking for a healthy puppy with good origin.

NOW... IF YOU ARE NOT INTIMIDATE WITH THE 13 REASONS AND STILL WANT YOUR GOLDEN FURRY COMPANION AT HOME...

WHY NOT BUY A GOLDEN? HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! ARE YOU READY TO HAVE THE WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE OF OWNING A GOLDEN RETRIEVER WITH YOU!
